Katherine of Aragon: The True Queen (Six Tudor Wives) - Alison Weir

My Score on Goodreads:
⭐⭐⭐

This is an extremely well researched novel, the story being told through the eyes of Katherine of Aragon. While being very true to history, and impressive in all its details, there were a few things I found hard to believe. Katherine's first marriage not being consummated in the book is one, and how she only finds out about Henry and Anne at a very late stage is another. I feel she surely would have been much more aware of their relationship, and also Henry's relationships with earlier misstresses, The way Katherine only ever blames Wolsey, Anne and later Cromwell for absolutely every evil thing Henry does is just silly. She would have known him better after so many years of marriage, and seen that he is not a puppet.
The best parts of the book for me, are the time when Katherine is not yet maried to Henry and everything after the moment Anne appears. I found it enjoyable enough and read the whole thing, which is why I have given three stars. But honestly, a lot more could have been done to make the story more interesting, for instance, more lively dialogue. I would have also enjoyed a few different viewpoints, like that of Wolsey or Princess Mary.

Have you read this novel? What did you think about it?

Anne Boleyn (Queen Series)

"Anne Boleyn" ~ available in my shop (see link below). Katherine of Aragon is now also available.

Anne Boleyn (1501-1536) was Queen consort of England and second wife of Henry VIII. Henry had fallen in love with Anne, but she did not want to become just one of his mistresses. This led to Henry wanting to annul his marriage to Katherine of Aragon and his breaking with the Catholic Church. Anne and Henry married and Anne gave birth to Princess Elizabeth, but only miscarriages followed. Henry began courting Jane Seymour instead and wanted to get rid of Anne. She was tried for high treason and found guilty. She was beheaded 19 May 1536.

Katherine of Aragon (Queen Series)

"Katherine of Aragon" ~ she will soon be available in my Etsy shop, see the link below.

Katherine of Aragon (1485-1536) was Queen consort of England and first wife of Henry VIII. She had married Henry's older brother Arthur before, but he died soon after they were wed. When Henry VIII sought to annul their marriage so he could marry Anne Boleyn, Katherine (and the Catholic church) did not consent, which eventually led to Henry making himself Supreme Head of the Church of England.

Augustus - John Williams

My Score on Goodreads:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Detailed and entertaining story about the life of Octavius Caesar, told from different points of view through letters and diaries of (mostly) people around the first Roman Emperor. I very much enjoyed switching between characters all the time, my favorite parts being those of Julia, daughter of Octavius. If you're interested in this period of time, I would definitely recommend it.
